The short version
Your workouts, food and body stats are saved on your phone first. If you make an account, they are backed up so you can use them on another phone.
When you ask Marsh something, your question and the details Marsh needs to answer go to our AI provider to write the reply. Marsh asks for your OK before the first time.
We don't sell your data, show ads, or track you across other apps and websites.
What's saved on your phone
Your plan, workouts and sets, how hard each workout felt, food log and food photos, food allergies and diet, height, age, sex, weight and body fat check-ins, sleep and water you log, sore spots, bloodwork results, your chats with Marsh, achievements, goals and settings. Without an account, this stays on your phone and never reaches us.
If you make an account
We keep your email address and a backed-up copy of your plan, workouts, food log, body check-ins, goals and settings, so they can be restored on a new phone. Your password is stored scrambled by our sign-in service and we never see it.
Your chats with Marsh, food photos, sleep, water, sore spots, bloodwork, achievements and any max you set yourself are not backed up. They stay on your phone.
Accounts and backups are stored with Supabase, our database provider. Your data is locked to your account, so other people using the app can’t see it.
Talking to Marsh
Marsh asks for your OK before anything is sent, and you can turn it off any time in Settings under Marsh’s AI.
When you chat with Marsh, snap a photo of a meal or your fridge, or add a lab report, we send your message, the photo or file, and a summary of your plan, recent workouts, food, body stats, sore spots and saved bloodwork results to our coach server. It asks Claude, an AI made by Anthropic, to write the reply.
We don't keep your chats, photos or files on our server. We only count how many replies and photos you've used each day, to enforce the daily limits. If you report one of Marsh's replies, we keep that reply and the reason you picked, so we can look into it. Anthropic handles them under its own privacy policy and commercial terms, which don't allow it to train its AI on them.
Lab reports are health information, so only add them if you're comfortable sharing them this way. Marsh is not a doctor and its answers are not medical advice.
Apple Health
If you connect Apple Health, the app reads your steps, active calories and sleep to show your day and week on the Today screen and the Sleep page. It only reads them, never writes to Health, and they stay on your phone: they aren't backed up, sent to Marsh's coach, or used for anything else. You can turn this off any time in the Health app under Sharing.
Location
Eat out nearby asks for your location only when you tap it. Your phone searches Apple Maps for places to eat around you, so Apple handles the search under its own privacy policy. We never receive or keep your location, and it is never sent to Marsh’s coach.
Videos
Workout classes and recipe videos play from YouTube. When you play one, YouTube, a Google service, loads the video and may collect information about the viewing under Google’s privacy policy. We don’t send YouTube anything about you.
Subscriptions
Plans are bought and managed through the App Store. We learn which plan you have and when it ends, never your payment details.
Camera, photos and voice
The app uses the camera or your photos only when you choose to snap or pick a picture, or to scan a barcode. Marsh reads its lines aloud with your phone’s built-in voice, so nothing is sent anywhere for that.
A scanned barcode is looked up straight from your phone in Open Food Facts, a free, open food database. The lookup sends only the barcode number, never a picture or anything about you.
Crash reports
If the app crashes or hits an error, it sends a crash report to Sentry, the service we use to find and fix bugs. A report says what went wrong and where in the app’s code, plus your phone model, iOS version and app version. It doesn’t include your name, email, workouts, food, chats or photos, and it isn’t used to track you.
Deleting your data
Go to Settings, then Account & backup, then Delete account. Your account and everything backed up with it are deleted right away, and the app erases your data from the phone. Without an account, deleting the app removes everything.
Children
The app is not meant for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top.
